I discovered Freezbone products over a year ago. I have two very active, high-energy dogs. If I’m being honest, they’re pretty needy. I love them dearly, but they’re a lot, and my husband and I both work from home. What we need is time to complete our daily tasks, whatever they may be. And, this is where the Freezbones comes in.

Freezbones are quite versatile. They have all kinds of different sizes for small, medium, and large dogs, but they also have different levels of difficulty throughout their products. This works great for us because we have Cali, our genius-level smarty-pants dog and Willow, our sweet & spacey pup. This means I can buy a shallow spiral one to fit Willow’s level and a much deeper, more difficult one for Cali. We really have to raise the bar for her and purchase the Enrichment Bundle, which works really well for her!
Freezbones are Safer for Dogs
We happen to have two heavy chewers, so we’re happy to see their products are made of 100% thick, natural rubber. Natural Rubber is tough, which makes it difficult to bite through. Not only that, but it also makes this enrichment freeze toy natural and non-toxic to dogs. Added bonus? Freezbones are also dishwasher-friendly! Who doesn’t want easy clean-up when it comes to dog snacks and slobber?
A Frozen Meal or Treat Helps Dogs Slow Down
I don’t know about you, but one of my dogs has chronic digestive upset, somewhat chronically. She vomits if she eats to fast, belches often, and has some form of acid reflux. We’ve treated her many times, have had imaging done, etc. Every check up comes back normal.
We’re convinced it has more to do with her scarfing down her food or bouncing around and playing right after eating. It’s hard to keep a high-energy dog down! And, both of my dogs currently have slow feeders, which isn’t really helping as much as we’d like.
Freezbone comes to the rescue with two brilliant ways to slow them both down. First, you can just put their dog food (wet food or dry food paired with dog-friendly bone broth) in a more complicated FB product to slow them down a bit or you can also freeze it, and really slow them down. At that point, they have no choice but to lick their meal instead gobbling it down at mach speed.
It’s Mentally Enriching for Dogs
Doing this type of food-related dog enrichment enhances mental stimulation in your dogs, especially on days where they aren’t able to do outdoor activities like scatter feeding, long walks, or playdates at the dog park.
Did you know that just 5-15 minutes of indoor food enrichment like food puzzles are just as exhausting for dogs as a one-hour walk might tire them? Obviously the walk adds a level of physical exercise, while the indoor food enrichment tires the mind only. Dogs need both, so switch it up and fulfill their need to for both mental and physical stimulation. Some activities automatically do both like a long walk in the woods, where the sniffing tires them out through processing new scents and the walk provides the physical exercise.
What can you put in a Freezbone?
So many different foods can be added to your food toy. For example, some of our favorites are pumpkin puree, dog-friendly bone broth, pumpkin puree, peanut butter (peanuts should be the only ingredient), and plain non-fat yogurt. Sometimes we mix a few of these together like the pumpkin and peanut butter, but do what your dog likes. You can also find liver spreads and goat milk (small amounts due to fat content). Willow really likes the Woof Pupsicle Mix, so we use that one a lot! It pairs well with the sweeter stuff.
On lazy days, we opt for a good dog-friendly bone broth with “treat dust” from our dog treat canister! And, although it doesn’t do as well frozen, we sometimes top off parts of the lick toy or bowl with pup cup whipped cream, which you can usually find in the refrigerated section of your local pet store.
